Translator training and development

Translators are key to making literature travel but they are often isolated and under-supported with little or no formal training opportunities.

Literature Across Frontiers develops models for the recruitment and training of literary translators – particularly those working from the less-widely used languages of Europe.

Our translation workshops are short-term residential programmes which help writers and translators to develop translation skills in a creative, collaborative and multilingual environment. See our Workshop section for extensive information on the LAF translation workshop model.

We also work closely with educational institutions in the Euro-Mediterranean region to develop tertiary education models for young language graduates. Over the past few years we have developed pilot projects in close cooperation with the Al-Alsun faculty of languages at Ain Shams University in Cairo and the Turkish Ministry of culture and Bogazici University in Turkey.
