Literature Across Frontiers is based at the Mercator Institute for Media, Languages and Culture at the Institute of Literature, Languages and Creative Arts at Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK. For over twenty years the Mercator Institute has coordinated and led EU-funded research and network projects in the field of linguistic exchange and the cultural industries. It is also home to Wales Literature Exchange and the Minority Language Media Research Network (through the Mercator Network).

From 2001 to 2013 LAF was supported by the Culture Programme of the European Union. From 2015 LAF’s project Literary Europe Live is co-funded by the new Creative Europe programme of the EU.
