Wales Literature Exchange and Wales PEN Cymru have launched their latest Translation Challenge.

This year, they’re asking for translations of El Conejo y la Chistera by Mexican poet Pedro Serrano from the original Spanish to English or Welsh.

Professor Richard Gwyn will judge the English translations, whilst Ned Thomas will choose the best Welsh entry.

The English-language winner will be awarded a prize of £250 during a special event at the Hay Festival in May 2016, with the winning translation published in Poetry Wales.

The Welsh-language winner will receive a commissioned bardic staff and £250 at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in August 2016. The winning Welsh translation will be published in the literary magazine O’r Pedwar Gwynt.

There’s an entry fee of £6.00 and the deadline for entries is midnight 31 March 2016.

You can find out more about the competition, pay the entry fee and view the poem in full on the WALES PEN Cymru website.

The competition is organised by Wales PEN Cymru and Wales Literature Exchange at Aberystwyth University, in partnership with Swansea University’s College of Arts and Humanities.
