Locked Down in Kolkata: Translating Iconic Bengali Authors

A series of conversations and Q&A sessions with our former Charles Wallace India Trust Fellows and Literature Across Frontiers’ Director, Alexandra Büchler, produced in collaboration with Yr Egin Ar-Lein.

We catch up with our former Fellows to discuss what they have been up to since their Fellowship in Wales. The series was recorded and broadcast during the Covid-19 lockdown. Alexandra caught up with the writer and translator V. Ramaswamy, who was our inaugural Charles Wallace India Fellow in 2016. Ramaswamy’s non-fiction writing has focused on social activism, advocating for the rights of the city’s poorest inhabitants, and more recently on literary translation. They will be talking about his work translating two giants of contemporary Bengali writing: Subimal Misra and Manoranjan Byapari.
