LEUL+ at Agor Drysau / Opening Doors Festival 2019

We have partnered with the the Agor Drysau / Opening Doors biennial festival of performing arts for young people to bring the topic of displacement and exile to audiences in Wales. Our joint programme features productions Pizza Shop Heroes by Phosphoros Theatre in London, Refugi by Clownidoscopio Teatre in the Balearic Islands, and Transporter from South Wales, a story about home, refugees, travelling, identity and young people by Theatre Iolo and The Riverfront.
The Syrian writer and illustrator of books for children Nadine Kaadan will take part with a discussion about her collaboration with the Welsh actress Ffion Wyn Bowen on retelling one of her stories for live audiences, and in a storytelling session in Arabic for children from Syria settled in Wales and their families.
Our joint programme also includes a debate on Exploring Language and Identity in Creative Work with Biagio Guerrera, poet, musician and co-organiser of SabirFest, our partner festival in Sicily, and the Indonesian author Faisal Oddang, participating in the London Book Fair Market Focus Indonesia.
The Slovenian author and translator Suzana Tratnik who came to Aberystwyth for a residency in 2016 is returning for a staged reading of her play My Name is Damian and panel debate ‘The identity of children and young people – how can theatre promote diversity in sexual and gender identity?’
The refugee theme was part of our project Literary Europe Live Plus, supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
