Fatos Kongoli is a contemporary Albanian novelists. He was born and raised in Albania Tirana and as a young man studied mathematics in China during the Sino-Albanian alliance. During these years, he remained silent as a writer, devoting himself to his career as a mathematician. When the communist dictatorship ended in the 1990s, he began to publish books. His narratives exposed the crimes of the dictatorship. Beginning with The Loser, published in 1992, which deals with Albanian life under the Hoxha dictatorship, Kongoli has subsequently published books such as Kufoma (The Corpse, 1994) and Dragoi i fildishtë (The Ivory Dragon, 1999). His novels have been translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Slovak, and other languages.
