There are a number residencies available worldwide offering writers the opportunity to encounter a new place and other artists whilst having time to focus on their work.

Databases of residency opportunities
A vital resource is ResArtis which has a searchable list of residencies for artists of all disciplines. HALMA  is a network of writers houses in Europe and TransArtists is another good resource for artist-in-residence opportunities. The Alliance of Artists Communities is an American organisation offering information on residencies for artists of all disciplines and a list of residencies which are offered.

KulturKontact Milo-Dor Grant

Who? KulturKontakt Austria, a centre which promotes ‚cultural education in Austrian schools, international educational cooperation, and international residency programmes for artists from abroad.‘
Where? Vienna, Austria.
How long? Up to 2 months.
Who can apply? Writers and translators from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and the Ukraine.
Other information: Apply in the Autumn for the following year. Award includes board and lodging, insurance and a monthly allowance.

Translators‘ House Wales

Who? Wales Literature Exchange and Tŷ Newydd National Writers Centre for Wales run Translators‘ House Wales a series of residencies for international writers and translators
Where?  Tŷ Newydd is a historic house located in the Snowdonia National Park, in wooded surroundings, a few minutes‘ walk from the sea of Cardigan Bay, with the mountains of Snowdonia in the background.
How long? 2 – 3 weeks
Who can apply? Writers and translators from around the world.

Jessie Kesson Fellowship

Who? Monhiak Mohr Writers Centre.
Where? Teavarran, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
How long? 1 month, every year in March.
Who can apply? Writers. Applicants will have some experience working with primary and/or secondary pupils, be willing to participate in an evening literary event, and have a driving licence.
Other information: Accommodation but not food is provided. A £350 stipend per week is paid to the resident.

Kamov Residency

Who? The City of Rijeka, Croatia, designates one apartment in the city as an artists residence.
Where? Rijeka, Croatia
How long? Minimal duration 15 days.
Who can apply? ‚creative individuals from the fields of literature, visual art, audiovisual arts and social sciences, who don’t have permanent residence in Croatia, in Rijeka.‘
Other information: Residents are expected to engage with the cultural scene in Rijeka through lectures, workshops and exhibitions etc and to leave a record of their stay.

MEET

Who? Maison des Écrivains Étrangers et des Traducteurs ・Meet (France)
Where? The ‚Meet‘, a writers’ and translators’ house overlooking the docks and the shipyards
of Saint Nazaire Harbour on the Loire River estuary, France.
How long for? 4-8 weeks.
Who can apply? Foreign writers and translators.
Other information: A spacious apartment and a grant of €230 per week is provided.
