Literature Across Frontiers has organised over 100 translation workshops in the following countries or regions: Algeria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Egypt, Estonia, Greece, Georgia, Galicia, India, Israel, Iraq, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Singapore, Turkey, Vietnam and Wales (24 countries, 14 in the EU, 10 outside). Around 800 writers/translators writing in some 60 languages have participated in LAF workshops to date producing some 10,000 translations of poems and short stories. Some workshops have generated between 150 – 190 translations. Many of the workshops were organised as part of our multiyear projects supported by the Creative Europe and previously the Culture Programme of the European Union.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have started developing a digital workshop model in 2020. The workshops organised so far were a workshop for poets participating in the Ulysses Shelter project of exchange residencies for young writers and translators, supported by the Creative Europe Programme, with poets from Greece, Croatia, Serbia and Wales, The digital residency project U O, supported by the British Council, brings together women and non-binary poets and artists form Vietnam and Wales to translate poetry across languages and art forms, and series of digital workshops between Czech and Scottish poets, supported by the Edwin Morgan Trust will result in virtual and in-person. encounters in the Czech Republic and Scotland.
